The principle of eMerite VOBID is the combined use of several social media monitoring software tools. We search for keywords defined by the client (name of the company, its products, names of its representatives etc.) in internet discussions with their help. We are not limited to social networks because their users talk more about their daily experiences than about specific products and services. For example cars are discussed mainly on websites for motorists, insurance is discussed on forums of financial servers, tips on cosmetics or children snacks are discussed mainly on websites for women etc.

The basis of the eMerite VOBID, however, is the detailed evaluation of content and impact of the discussions on the client. The analysis of the source data from social media and other internet forum monitoring i.a. includes:

  • the search of the context of forum posts without keywords in which users react on one another, they talk off-topic etc.
  • filtering out the worthless or unsubstantial posts (it can be the majority of the discovered posts)
  • assessment of the share of posts about client compared to the share of posts about competitors
  • evaluation of sentiment (emotional charge) of the posts related to the client, i.e. positive, negative or neutral
  • evaluation of influence of so-called passive participants in the discussion who only click on the buttons (so-called social plugins) „Like”, „I agree”, „I don’t agree”, „Share” etc., because they can completely change the sentiment (sense) of the discussion
  • assessment of the influence of servers with forum posts (according to their target group and traffic)
  • characteristics of debaters/commenters (gender, age, city, contact information), influence of the most active ones (number of friends on Facebook, number of followers on Twitter etc.)
  • impact of the on-line discussions on traffic (revenue) of client’s website

The integral parts of evaluation of on-line discussions are practical suggestions and recommendations how the client can, based on the discovered preferences of internet commenters, improve its communication strategy on social networks and other internet forums.
